what is love?

in the last few days God has had a lot of lessons for me. someone at Bible school once said that you could learn just as much about God in the "real world" as Bible school, it was all about where He decided to teach you. now i see this. i'll always be thankful for that year, but now i'm starting to actually get what i've learnt.

when i was 15-years-old a guy whom i don't see anymore asked me what love was. somehow i was suppose to have this answer, so i went on a search for it. i remember coming up with something to please him, but only now am i starting to see a picture of what it really it.

i went to go see "Passion of the Christ" at my church. i'd seen it before and decided that as the Easter season was upon me, this was a good time to refresh my memory. i made it 20min in and left. something was different, it wasn't a story, it was the pain, hurt and death of my best friend and i couldn't watch. even the "little" things such as the spitting in His face was too much for me, something was pulling on my heart. it was love.

the last few weeks it seems like all the scabs on my heart have been pulled off and i can feel myself bleed from times before. i watch all these emotions from the past be triggered. The anger, fear and pain did come, but the thing that reigned was love. it was the strongest. even though the memories have faded, something is still there in the bottom of your heart. it overwhelms and never dies.

love is being able to say anything to someone; being valnerable and intimate with them, because in love all fear is cast out (got that from my sis). it's saying anything just because you want to talk and feeling the pain/joy of someone else. at bible study on wed someone said that when your in love with someone that you can feel when they're detached, it's true. you know when someone is doing something out of love you can feel it. i think that's how we as Christians should be people should be able to know that they are in the presence of someone that loves them, not because we know them, but because Jesus loves them and therefore we do as well.

seeing as it is Easter you must realize by now what this is building up to. some might think it's the challenge of pondering Jesus's love for us when he died on the cross and it is... sorta. the focus in my mind has no longer been the physical pain, but the emotional pain from being seperated from the Father. it wasn't a gradual but a quick distinct one. in my feeble attempts to empathize i remember Brittany or compare it to the idea of being seperated from my family, or seperating yourself from someone you love romantically or worse not having Jesus in my life. i know that has to be the worst.

i apologize for all the cliches. the things i've learnt since i was 2 are starting to become real to me. love is the most powerful force and it does transcend death, blind you and will always defeat evil.
